Molecular Pathology in Oncology Conference

PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from the Molecular Medicine Center presented their work during the first Molecular pathology in Oncology conference organized by the Bulgarian Society of Pathology, the “Molecular Genetics in Medicine” Association, and the Bulgarian Academy of Science and Arts. The event took place in the auditorium of the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases “St. Ekaterina” on the 6-7 of June, 2014.

The Molecular Medicine Center presented for the first time to the Bulgarian scientific community results from the genetic studies of cases of familial breast and ovarian cancer in Bulgaria. Participants in the conference also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the application of circulating tumour cells and DNA for the evaluation of therapy efficiency in oncology, the discovery of new molecular markers in glial and prostate tumours, and the application of gene panels for second-generation sequencing for the discovery of pathogenic mutations in cancer.
