Second Annual International BAMO Conference

The second annual international conference of the Bulgarian Association for Medical Oncology (BAMO) and the National Bulgarian Oncology Association took place on the 13th and 14th of June 2014. The conference included the latest achievements in treatment and diagnostics of solid malign tumours, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2014 conference. As a research center with active involvement in familial cancer genetics in Bulgaria, the Molecular Medicine Center of the Medical University of Sofia was represented by assoc.prof. Radka Kaneva, executive manager of MMC and member of the scientific council of BAMO.

Prof. Kaneva presented to the participants in the conference the work done at MMC with familial forms of colorectal carcinoma, breast and ovarian carcinoma, as well as the guidelines for detection and prevention of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN, www.nccn.org). She also presented the results of the second-generation sequencing laboratory of MMC and their validation for diagnostic purposes, as well as the opportunities given by the use of multi-gene panels for the study of hereditary cancer.
